UWC students clash with police at UWC Shutdown

UWC protesters are combating riot police on the campus after a day of violent protests, with some students successfully using hosepipes as weapons and bin lids as shields.

“We’re not going to sleep tonight until our people are released,” one student leader said.

Students have vowed to continue with their demonstrations until the university met all their demands. Among the demands are no fee increases, free tuition to those who cannot afford it and the scrapping of outsourced services like catering and campus security.
